Senior Procurement Specialist

AccessHR is excited to partner with TransCanada Turbines for the recruitment of a full-time, permanent Senior Procurement Specialist. This is a newly created role, and the successful candidate will work out of the Airdrie location. Some local and international travel is required.

 

Position Summary

 

The Senior Procurement Specialist will join a tenured and collaborative 8-member Production Support Team and will report directly to the Director, Production Support. The successful candidate will also lead a team of three direct reports, including an Operations Analyst, Supply Chain Coordinator, and Procurement Specialist.

 

This newly created strategic procurement role is entrusted with leading the corporate procurement function, partnering with internal and external stakeholders, and effectively developing and implementing processes and procedures. 

 

You will manage the procurement of OEM turbine components, develop trusted supplier relationships, deliver forecast improvements, and support Health and Safety initiatives.

 

An in-depth understanding of complex technical operations, particularly in environments with long lead times and licensing agreements, is key to success. As a leader, you will set the tone for accountability, collaboration, and professionalism, demonstrating a commitment to excellence and fostering a culture of fun, trust, and integrity.

 

Key Deliverables

  • Procurement and Supplier Relationship Management: Oversee sourcing of OEM turbine components, manage procurement budgets, build trusted relationships with suppliers and repair vendors, and ensure timely deliveries while resolving quality and/or shipping issues.
  • Procurement Strategy: Develop and implement procurement strategies aligned with organizational goals, ensuring optimal sourcing decisions.
  • Contract Negotiation: Negotiate supplier terms and conditions, including pricing, delivery schedules, and service levels; manage Request for Proposal (RFP) and Request for Quotation (RFQ) processes.
  • Inventory and Forecasting Management: Collaborate with Inventory Analyst to monitor inventory usage ensuring alignment with demand forecasts; provide recommendations to senior leaders.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams to understand needs and ensure smooth procurement processes.
  • Executive Reporting: Deliver concise, insightful reports to senior executives, accompanied by actionable recommendations.
  • Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure procurement activities comply with company policies, legal regulations, and ethical standards; mitigate risks associated with international procurement.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements, implement best practices, and contribute to overall operational efficiency.
  • Team Leadership and Mentoring: Lead, mentor, and provide guidance to procurement staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performance team environment.
  • Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE): Promote and take ownership of HSE initiatives, demonstrating support and commitment to workplace safety and compliance.

Education & Experience

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in finance, business administration, supply chain management, or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of MS Office software including advanced Excel; experience with procurement software tools.
  • 8+ years’ experience in a senior procurement role in a similar industry and/or manufacturing/repair environment.
  • 2+ years’ leadership experience.

Assets

  • Supply Chain Management Professional (SCMP) or comparable designation.
  • Experience with NetSuite ERP system.
  • Expertise and/or experience with international operations.
  • Business travel experience.
