Classroom Champions is excited to partner with AccessHR for the recruitment of a full-time, permanent Head of Human Resources.

 

Position Description

 

The Head of Human Resources is crucial to maintaining and enhancing organizational culture throughout our upcoming high growth period. The entire organization wants to ensure that employees feel deeply supported and highly valued.

 

Reporting to the Director of Finance & Operations, the successful candidate will have a comprehensive understanding of Canadian Human Resource practices and the ability to collaborate effectively with a USA-based Human Resources consultant.

 

The Head of Human Resources will play a pivotal role in fostering a supportive, engaging, and inclusive environment for a cross-border, fully remote team. This opportunity is well suited for a strategic HR professional who also loves to be hands-on. There are currently no direct reports but that may change as the organization moves forward.

 

A clear differentiator for this role is that the successful candidate will be a trusted advisor to the senior leadership team at both tactical and strategic levels. Ultimately, Classroom Champions is seeking an approachable, transparent, “get-it-done” individual who listens carefully, takes an inquiry-based approach, and demonstrates high emotional intelligence.

 

Key Deliverables

  • Workplace Culture Champion: Ensure workplace culture reflects organizational values and mission; maintain and enhance culture through high-growth initiatives.
  • Strategic HR: Introduce and deliver innovative programs and initiatives to support strategic priorities, business objectives, and organizational culture.
  • Compliance: Create and maintain a cohesive HR system that integrates practices from both Canada and the USA; collaborate with USA-based HR consultants to oversee HR compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws in the USA.
  • Talent Acquisition & Talent Strategy: Build and execute the organizational talent management strategy including recruitment, onboarding, engagement, and retention.
  • Total Rewards & Payroll: Oversee Canadian payroll process; manage compensation and benefits programs in Canada and USA.
  • Employee Relations & Performance Management: Provide guidance and support on employee relations issues; develop and introduce performance management system.
  • Leadership Development: Develop, coach, and support leaders to effectively navigate challenges, drive results, and create a positive and supportive work environment.
  • Learning & Development: Identify training and development opportunities; promote a culture of continuous learning and development.

  • Legal and Compliance Knowledge: Understanding of employment laws, regulations, and compliance requirements; ensures HR practices & policies meet legal standards to mitigate risk.
  • Exceptional Communicator: Encourages open dialogue; actively listens and asks, “tell me more” and “help me understand” questions; communicates clearly and checks in to ensure full comprehension; straightforward and truthful even in challenging situations.

Education & Experience 

  • Undergraduate degree or diploma in human resources, business administration, or related field.
  • 10+ years’ experience in human resources; 3 to 5 years’ experience in generalist and/or manager roles.
  • Experience in similar size, fully remote, and growing organizations.

Assets 

  • Familiarity with USA HR processes and compliance.
  • Understanding of Canadian payroll systems; experience leading payroll professionals
  • Advanced education or certification in change management, project management, and/or business administration
  • CPHR designation or eligibility to obtain the designation
